I'm so bummed!

Birth controll pills are ineffective on me, because of some other medications I'm on, that mess with my liver and metabolize everything really quickly...so when I heard about the NuvaRing, I was TOTALLY psyched! Anyway, I went to the doctor yesterday to try to get a prescription for one, and my doctor said that although it's been FDA approved, it's not out on the market yet, and he has no idea when it's coming out. I was so sad! I know a few of you ladies already have them...how did you get them!? Any idea on when they're coming out?

do you know anything about side effects? is it like the pill in that respect?

(sorry i couldn't help answer your question!)

My dr told me it only affects the reproductive organs so there are no other side effects, but I'm inclined to believe she's wrong, because if there are artificial hormones in your body there are artificial hormones in your body, whether you take them by mouth or vagina.

However - I looked at the prescribing information for the Nuvaring and compared the ingredients to Ortho-Tricyclen, and there are less hormones in the Nuvaring (roughly a third to a half of what's in Ortho-Tri. So there would probably be less side effects if any.

Also, the prescribing information for Nuvaring does mention all of the side effects of most birth control pills. If my dr is right, this is probably just the pharmaceutical company being sure to cover its ass in case of any adverse effects.

My general practitioner told me their office is supposed to "test-market" the Nuvaring sometime this spring, but no date has been set. So people around the country are probably in the same boat.

howdy, Last week my doctor told me May/June.
I trust her (she's my OBGYN, and my cousin) Good luck!

Even though the prescribing info for the Nuvaring lists the potential risks of it as the same as the pill...it just seems that anything you put in your stomach is going to spread out more into your body and be absorbed more by your whole body...while something that you put in your vagina would probably not, therefore causing less side effects...?
