I went to the Elizabeth Arden Day Spa, so my experience is with their wax and their staff. I will say this, I definitely recommend them.
First off, I think the technician you get is going to make all difference. The woman who has done mine is pleasant, professional and made the entire experience as painless as possible. She did the first Brazilian I ever had and I worried about being uncomfortable and feeling awkward but with her, she made it seem so routine I hardly noticed.
Second, the wax that they use at Elizabeth Arden is excellent. It hardens into a taffy consistency and they just peel up a bit of edge and _rip_.
Now I will say this I has myself SO psyched out about being torturously painful that it was far less painful than I expected. HOWEVER!!! It does hurt. If you've had any waxing done and find it painful then yes, this will be worse. All in all it takes about 30 minutes. The worst part is the fact that they will have to go back over certain areas because the hair grows in several directions. The pain is searing and immediate but it goes away pretty quickly. I'm sure all of this varies with pain tolerance and skin sensitivity.
You will be surprised how quickly the pain will subside and within a day I was almost completely normal.
As far as the cost -vs- benefits. The first week is awesome and having no razor burn at the beach is awesome, totally worth the $60.
I wasn't as impressed when the hair started to come back. For me I had major problems with ingrown hairs and irritated skin. Since I prefer to be hairless all the time I'm actually more comfortable with shaving, because I tried to shave after two weeks and my skin got _really_ angry.
I also know if this is something you want to maintain, it gets easier each time if you keep up with it and don't shave because the hair is finer etc...

nope
It can cause some abrasions if you're being extremely ... vigorous but I personally haven't had any problems with it. :D
