I'm considering Implanon and was chatting to a friend about it. She is 6 months into her second implanon and she said she was getting side effects - mainly moodiness, with the rod, so her Dr also prescribed her the minipill to take.

I've been googling mini pill and implanon, but I'm not finding much.

Is her Dr making a good clinical decision to prescribe her the pill while she still has the implanon in?

My friend has the weight gain side effect from implanton, but while she gained quite a good deal of it I'm sure was due to junk food and other eating habits. Otherwise she has had no other complaints.

Because every patient is different, I don't know that anyone can say that your friend's doctor is making a good clinical decision. She's likely making a decision based on what symptoms/side effects your friend is showing, and that's the best she can do. Without specifics, and without the requisite medical training, it's going to be difficult for most of us to form an informed opinion regarding your friend's treatment.

If your friend is concerned that this isn't the best course of action for her, she could always seek a second opinion.
