Nuva Ring Question

So basically in the past I was on Loestrin 24 and fencom fe, I did not have very good luck w/ the BC pill at all, due to some health issues. So I went off it completley. I decided I wanted to try something different and decided on the ring and my doc said that would be good for me considering my conditions, I understand the directions on the ring completly, but he told me b/c my hormones are all off to keep it in 3 months and then take it out get a period ext ext instead of 3 weeks, this is confusing to me.. has anyone done it this way or should I call him and tell him I just wanna do the way the directions say.

i got anxiety issues w/ the pill so he thinks that ring will be perfect for me, but wants me to try it this way b/c the way i feel before and while i get my period.
