Nuva Ring Question

So basically in the past I was on Loestrin 24 and fencom fe, I did not have very good luck w/ the BC pill at all, due to some health issues. So I went off it completley. I decided I wanted to try something different and decided on the ring and my doc said that would be good for me considering my conditions, I understand the directions on the ring completly, but he told me b/c my hormones are all off to keep it in 3 months and then take it out get a period ext ext instead of 3 weeks, this is confusing to me.. has anyone done it this way or should I call him and tell him I just wanna do the way the directions say.

Wait- you mean he told you to "stack" the ring for 3 months? As in remove it and insert a new one every 3 weeks? If so, then yes, you should be fine. But you may get some spotting from continuous use. Or you can also leave the ring in for 4 weeks, and out for one. (or in for 4 weeks, remove it and insert a new one without a withdrawal bleed.) I do it that way. Seems like you just get a little more for your money like that.

You can't keep one ring in for 3 months, but as the first commenter said, you can stack the rings so that you don't have your period for awhile. I do this because I get bad cramps and breakouts on the off week when I'm on the ring. I keep it in for 4 weeks (if you check the directions, it says if you leave the ring in for 4 weeks you are completely protected) then put a new one in without a ring free week. I can generally do that for a few months until I start spotting a little, then I take an off week to have my period.

I think he meant putting a new one in each month and skipping your ring free week for four months. My doctor has me insert my ring the first of the month, leave it in until the same time on the 1st of the next month. I then take out the old one and put a new one in right away. Now when I go to have my period, I remove the ring one week to the day prior to the first of the month. Example: Thursday is the 1st of January. The prior Thursday was Christmas, so I took it out then.

You definitely can leave it in for 4 weeks instead of 3 and still be completely protected (I did that for 1.5 yrs and never had an issue). But I do find it weird that he wants you to stack it for 3 months. Would there be a reason for that?
