Yeastie & Always Pads

So I went into the doctor's a couple days ago, and I'm told my yeast infection is caused by using Always pads because of their dry-weave being made of plastic. Who knew?!  I am also thinking this is the reason why during every period of my entire life my crotch has been sore as hell (unless that's just natural?) since Always was the brand I used for life. Anyways, she recommended that I use New Freedom pads and I don't know about you but I've never even heard of these nor have I seen them on the shelves. Am I missing something?

Anyways,  if I can't find these New Freedom pads do you have any suggestions as to BREATHABLE natural disposible pads? I'm considering those re-usable pads but... I just don't know yet.

Natracare pads are excellent, and are made from natural materials.

Cloth pads. Seriously!
I've been using/making them for a little over a year and a half.. and I would *not* go back. They're just so much better- more breathable and way more comfortable! Not to mention the obvious economical benefits.
If you want the link to my store let me know. I can give you a shipping discount. :)

I love your icon- my son is autistic.

[identity profile] slobbergal.livejournal.com 2008-05-02 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
my son is also autistic. How old is your son? Mine's 8.

And thank you for the link. I will check it out.

My son is two. He's a youngin' and was just recently diagnosed. :)

[identity profile] slobbergal.livejournal.com 2008-05-02 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
You've got a lot ahead of you then. I've been fighting my son's school district now for a long time to get him the right accomodations. :/

[identity profile] beautifulmithra.livejournal.com 2008-05-02 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I know. It's a total bummer thinking about what all I'm going to have to face. My hopes are by the time I'm going to have to go through any of that with my son, more people will be accommodated with it.
It probably won't happen, but I'm certainly trying to be optimistic.

Your so sweet to people Kristin!!!! <3!!!!

Hehe. Thanks. :)

I'd second cloth pads. If you want something disposable, Natracare are excellent, I have a standby box for when I'm having cup issues.

I use Seventh Generation organic cotton pads and tampons.

I had swamp-crotch and pain like you mentioned. I too used always. Ive been an organic vag girl for about 2 years now and I LOVE it.

Check any local organic/good foods type stores. all else fails, use amazon or ebay. (I buy mine off amazon)

[identity profile] yvettel.livejournal.com 2008-05-02 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
If you are interested, google cotton pads. theres a list of yucky stuff inthe Always type products that are just bad for you, let alone your poor vag!
My first period using the organic cotton products, was earthshattering! no pain, no itchy vulva, no smell, no dampness/sweaty feelings.

you are very welcome!

Wow. Thank you for posting this. For whatever reason, it never occurred to me that my pads would be causing the awful vag-skin sensitivity/soreness I experience during my period. :/ Who knew?!

[identity profile] melisjesus.livejournal.com 2008-05-02 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I also agree with the cloth pads!

Since I've started using (and making!) them I actually love getting my period...it's sort of weird, lol.

New Freedom...I haven't seen those is like 10+ years. Maybe she means Stayfree.

In the meantime definitely look into cloth pads. Such an improvement over dispoables and believe me that is the understandment of the millenium. More comfortable, more absorbant, and pretty fabrics too. You can make your own too. Check out diy_pads and cloth_pads. You will be glad you did.

Yes! Sewing machines are good. :)

YAY clothpadladies!

[identity profile] sweetchellie.livejournal.com 2008-05-02 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I was having the same issue!! I assumed it was because of the strip they put in the middle that was irritating me lately. I bought Stay Free pads for a switch but they are so thick, the Always are thinner.

I second the natracare pads and cloth pads recommendation! www.lunawolf.co.uk has fantastic cloth pads, and they make such a difference :o)

On the subject of Always pads, ick i changed to natural when they started putting a blue strip on their pads. I don't want something that looks like toilet cleaner near my vag thank you!

Always pads are quite irritating on me. I hear quite negative things about that particular brand coming from certain women with drastic vulvar sensitivities.

I always always recommend NatraCare brand. The only gripe I Have is they don't come in a lot of different sizes, so you might have to stack one behind the other in your underwear. But they are organic & pretty much totally non irritating.

You can probaly find them in the organics section of Yon Local Foode Markette or a natrual food store.

Just chiming in to say that I've heard the same things as well from women for quite some time -- that Always are the worst disposable pads out there for irritation. OP - I don't use pads anymore (only a menstrual cup), but if I did I would go for the cloth. Really comfy, good for the environment, saves you money, less chafing, wicks moisture away...good times. :)

I love love loveeeee cloth pads! There are so many fantastic and supportive communities here on livejournal.

I personally switched to cloth after long issues with yeast infections and since I stopped using disposable pads, no yeasties! <3 it!!!

I make and sell cloth pads, omg, so much more fun than regular white ones :)

I tried the organic pads and tampons as well and still had a bit of a problem, although not as badly! I think honestly anything is better than Always :)

Good Luck!

If you're in a pickle, you might just try Kotex. Some women are sensitive to Always because of the green core absorbent crap, which Kotex doesn't have. As for cloth pads, I LOVE THEM. My favorite seller is at homemademama, her stuff is made with the best fabrics. I also like Punky's. Good luck!
