Hi. I know there is a lot about UTIs on this but i couldnt find my exact question. So basically i am kinda prone to UTIs. Although i havent gotten one recently, i have had quite a few since the time i began having sex a little over a year ago. The last one i had was around October, so i dont completely remember every little symptom i had. Last i had sex was about a week ago. The sex was frequent that day and also a little rough. I noticed this week that my pee was fine but after i peed my urethra and area around it felt somewhat irritated... much like the feeling when i have a UTI. However, normally when i have one it burns when i pee but this time it doesnt burn. As the week went on that irritating feeling began to occur after almost every time i pee instead of just sometimes. As of tonight it's feeling the worst it has, yet it still doesnt really burn when im actually peeing. It only burns after. Earlier today my urine was a little cloudy. Does this seem like a UTI? I am just thrown off because i have never had one that didnt cause burning during urination. If this is a dumb question I'm really sorry. I am a very nervous person and i always think the worst when it comes to issues with my vagina. Thanks for your help and sorry this entry was so long.

Date: 2007-05-18 04:29 am (UTC)i would recommend getting tested by your doctor, to be sure. it is possible to have urethra irritation, but in my experience that generally only lasts a day or 2. if by day 2 i'm still feeling any UTI-like symptoms, i always go get tested because most of the time, it's a UTI (i'm prone to them). your issues have been going on for a while now, so i'd get tested.
you can also buy test strips at a drugstore if you want to test your urine, but if that comes up positive make sure you get to a doctor pronto for a proper test and antibiotics!
in the future, you may want to try a daily cranberry supplement (if you aren't taking it already) in order to help prevent UTIs. also, pee after sex, if you're not already.

Date: 2007-05-18 04:33 am (UTC)more than likely, what your describing is a UTI. although the burning AFTER you pee kind of concerns me. if it had just been irritation from sex that day, i would think it would have only lasted a day or two. And since the symptoms are getting worse you probably need to get it checked out, because with a UTI you would need to take antibiotics.
Your doctor can do a urine test to see what it might be. Could it be possible that you have a cut or an irritation on your vagina that could be getting more irritated when urine hits it? That could be why its burning afterwards.

Date: 2007-05-20 12:36 pm (UTC)I suggest googling! I have seen sites just mention it in passing, but I don't understand why it's not promoted at the same time as people talk about cranberry for example (which never worked for me, but barley does)

It sounds like a somewhat mild UTI that just isn't hurting a whole lot yet, but better to take care of it as soon as you can. I'm glad you've got an appointment for tomorrow!
