Personal tampon problem, general HPV question

I know I posted yesterday, but my curiosity has been eating away at me.

I recently, after going through three different kinds of tampons, found a brand that I actually like. They're really comfortable and they never feel like they're about to slide out. But the thing is, I never know when it's full. I know not to keep it in there for more than 8 hours because of TSS, and I'm careful about that. But it's not like wearing a pad, you know? With a pad, you just pull your underwear down and take a look, but it's not like you can pull a tampon out to see if it's full and then out it back in. I suppose I can just change my tampon every four hours, but that sounds...like I would go though a box pretty fast, and believe me when I say that I am a BROKE college student. Is there a...feeling I should be aware of, that will let me know when my tampon is full? I have ruined a few of my favorite pairs of underwear because I didn't change my tampon soon enough.

My other, completely unrelated question is about HPV. From my understanding, HPV can sometimes be passed from one partner to another, even if a condom is used. Well, let's say your boyfriend tells you he has genital warts from HPV, but you have gotten the vaccine for it, all three shots. (I'm totally blanking on the name) The vaccine protects you from two strains of HPV that cause warts, but how do you know if you're protected from the strain your boyfriend has? Can he get tested to see what TYPE of HPV he has, or are the only tests available tell you whether or not you have HPV?
