BV?

I am wondering what Bacterial Vaginosis is like from personal experience (memories is too vague).

For the past couple months I have smelled different, a bit fishy, with a slightly yellow discharge. My vulva does not itch, but is slightly generally uncomofrtable. I thought this was a yeast infection so I tried monistat which I thought helped until a week or so after the symptoms came back, so I figured it came back and used another monistat. Also, I have had my period twice, and the symptoms were the same before and after bleeding.

Do my symptoms describe BV or something else? My gyno can't see me for almost 2 weeks so I'm pretty clueless.

Thanks!

sounds like BV to me.
i used to have similar symptoms.. i cut dairy out of mdiet and they've disappeared. Maybe it was coincidence, but if you're desperate you could give it a go for a few days or a week and see what happens.

A "fishy" smell is a classic symptom of BV as is a yellowish or greyish discharge, so it sounds like you're on the right track now.

I've only had BV once and had no symptoms at all - we caught it during a yearly pap.

Though I have no personal experience with BV, from my readings, I think your symptoms sound more like BV than they do like something else. You may be interested in checking out this web page (http://www.4woman.gov/faq/stdbv.htm) for more detailed information.

Is there a way you can either convince your gyno to see you sooner (i.e., to emphasize your discomfort and/or concerns) or to see a different health care provider -- perhaps your general practitioner, an urgent care facility, or a Planned Parenthood? Following one of those avenues might lead to quicker relief for you. :)

Good luck!

The fishy smell is usually the dead giveaway for bacterial vaginosis.

BV infections can be extremely different between people (and between infections!) and many women do not show symptoms of BV at all; that said, when I had it, my symptoms were an overpowering, foul fishy smell (it was noticeable through jeans), a thin greyish discharge, and some mild vaginal soreness.

I tagged your post, so now you can click on the tag and be linked to other posts about BV, which may help you gather some more information about it.

I'd encourage you to try to convince your GYN to squeeze you in earlier; usually they keep slots open for people with infection symptoms or urgent needs. Good luck!

yeah bv smells fishy (i think it's kind of more like the ocean than like an actual fish, and sometimes it's more like a vinegary pasta salad) and it is a generalized pain in the vulva. sometimes i think it's the discharge hanging around in the underwear that makes it hurt more, so you could try changing them a lot and cleaning up down there until you can go to the dr.

My personal experience?

It doesn't smell like Fish for me, it smells like.... Food. Like... Fried Food, or Salty Food...

Can or can not itch. It goes both ways.
Green boogery discharge.

You'll need to get a proper diagnosis just to be sure, though.
