Gladrags, Diva cup...my wonderful experience
Hello ladies. I was reminded of an old entry I made from my personal journal to my female friends. I had been having horrible issues with pads and tampons and someone on here recommended I try alternative products. I ended up with gladrags and later a diva cup. I just wanted to share with you all how these two products have changed my life. I included the links that I had found then..there are probably more but after getting my three gladrags and my diva cup I haven't needed to shop around. I love them both too much!
This entry was from July 17, 1005.
I can't remember the first time I realized that I was different. I thought the pains I felt each month were normal. They weren't just around my period, but all the time. Once my period came it was excruciating for the 5-10 days I was actually menstrating. That's right...5 to 10! Once I was put on hormonal birth control, the length got better, some of the off menstration pains got better, but those pesky cramps during were just unbearable. I endured. Thinking there wasn't anything else. Well ladies I was wrong!!!!
I had a desire to limit my waste. I switched from paper towels to cloth napkins, reusable grocery bags and suchI typically went through a pad in an hour. When I could bear to wear them, tampons lasted an hour and a half or maybe two! But they were rather painful to put in, so I stuck with pads, which by the way gave me rashes, sometimes blisters, and I would always end up with a UTI or yeast infection afterwards. My periods were such a pain.
One day I was poking around on here, a community called vagina_pagina. Someone mentioned reusable cloth pads. I checked into Gladrags and noticed they sold them in Austin at the Whole Foods Market. I went down there (an hour drive mind you) specifically to purchase those. I bought a three pack because I am not a rich girl and $35 was a lot of money! I tried them out and haven't looked back since. They are actually LESS bulky than the commercial ones, more comfortable, don't give me a rash and best ever: I HAVE FEWER CRAMPS! I was so excited. I also can wear one cloth pad for 5-6 hours instead of the one hour those plastic, died, bleached and horrible ones. Also there was less smell. Actually...zero smell. I used to feel so nasty, dirty and just smelly during my periods. Now I don't. I urge all of you, my friends, to check this out. It cut my pain in half, I don't get blisters and I don't stink...what more can a woman want? Besides maybe never having a period again...but that may be too much to ask.
Then I found another great product. The diva cup. (there is also the keeper, mooncup, and insteads). This replaces the need for tampons, which i rarely used. I would avoid situations where I needed tampons at all costs. Now I don't. I have a Diva Cup for when I go dancing, swimming or am just doing too much to have to change and wash a pad. They are less painful to place in. I don't feel them. They don't dry me out and give me more pain. Again. It's revolutionized my world. It's wonderful because I can wear it all day. That's right a full 8-12 hours and not have to change it! I still use a pad a night and sometimes use them during the day too, but the diva cup is great for my more active days or if it's super hot outside. Texas weather means lots of swimming pool time.

I urge you all to read this, check out your alternatives! There are many more options than always, kotex, playtex or tampax. And they are better for you and our planet! They helped me and now I hope they can help you guys.
