Question about acidophilus for treating a YI

(I skimmed through the tagged posts, but didn't find the answer to my question).

For the past few months, I seem to be very prone to yeast infections. (I just finished treating one about 3 weeks ago, and now I seem to have another one). I was considering getting some acidophilus capsules, but I noticed on the bottle that it says to refrigerate them after opening. I still live with my family, so keeping a bottle of acidophilus pills in the fridge would bring on some very unwelcome questions from my very nosey mother.
So, my question is - how important is it to refrigerate the capsules? What would happen if I didn't? Will the bacteria die if I don't? Will it be less effective?

If you don't refridgerate the bacteria it will die and become less effective. Also, wha symptoms are you having that make you think you have a YI? Were you diagnosed by a doctor? Also, if you don't mind me asking, why can't your mother know about the probiotic and yeast infections? If she's never heard of using a probiotic you can always show her some information online. Instead of a probitoic if keeping it in the frige is an issue, instead you can take garlic daily to ward off the yeasties.

just tell her they're for maintaining proper digestive health. that's usually what the bottle says. don't see why acidophilus would be an issue though. it's a pretty harmless substance.

i'm not positive, but i think it's fairly important for certain formulations. they do make some that don't require refrigeration, however (they're not usually sold in the fridge section, they're usually out on the shelves) and i've used those without noticing much difference. but i've never taken the fridge-kind when theyve been out of the fridge so i cant speak from experience.

it's such a pain to have to hide that stuff from nosey parents. heh. i understand.

if you can eat ypgurt too! boric acid into capsules and shoved up there is helpful(or so said my gyno!). and just by chance be sure you aren't using anything down there that you might be allerigic too! i had constant yeast infection for a long time, a good 8 months..and finally i9 thought to use latex free condoms with my husband and what do you know...i stopped getting them! i get the occasional one but its never as bad as then.
and peel the label off the bottle if your mom will wonder or put them in a vitamin jar thats empty and tell her someone told you that if you keep them cool they last longer..

If they're anything like my acidophillus, you need to keep it refridgerated or else it won't work.

Just tell your folks its for helping digest food & then offer to share some. I let my mom use mine when she's taking antibiotics...
It'll happen eventually and she'll thank you later!
