Welcome to our new weekly links round-up. This is a compilation of items from the past week that may be of interest to VPers. If you'd like to see an article included, send me an e-mail at recidivist@vaginapagina.com . Non-US and positive links are especially appreciated. (I can't fit all the awesome links people send, but I'll try to post any that I don't include to Facebook, Tumblr, or Twitter.) You can also just take matters into your own hands and post in the comments!

As a reminder, in lieu of trigger warnings, I use keywords describing the themes of the piece. Please skim these before deciding to read the excerpt or click through for the full article. Outside sources are not safe spaces, and mainstream source's comments should almost always be avoided. The links I highlight don't necessarily reflect VP's views, or even my own, for that matter.

This week's round-up includes: learning consent in lesbian relationships; fear of antidepressants keep people from seeking help; cervical cancer detection with vinegar; FBI to revise rape definition; Wal-Mart adds transgender protections to non-discrimination policy; after her engagement falls apart, a woman marries herself; why doctors order so many tests; sidelining of people of color on Glee; grassroots involvement key to women's health; Our Bodies, Ourselves celebrates 40 years

Pill oopsie

Hi everyone,

fortunately I haven't had a need to post here. Unfortunately I had an oopsie this morning.

I usually take my pill at 11pm. Last night I forgot my pack at home and didn't have it on me. I finally took it at about 2 am. This morning, I forgot that I did take the pill on time(ish) and took today's (Saturday's) pill at about 11 am. Should I just go on like nothing happened at take the Sunday pill on schedule? I'm going to go over 24 hours without one, because I took today's a full 12 hours too early, but does that really matter? Won't the estrogen stay in my system?

Thank you in advance!

I've always had this problem with my vagina, I've never been able to insert a tampon or my fingers because it's way too painful. I'm about 99% sure its because of my hymen, which I can sort of feel. It frustrates me because I try so hard to break it but I can't. I've been with my boyfriend for almost 3 years and we've tried to have sex a few times but the fact that I start crying with pain before he hardly even enters makes him lose his erection. Also the pain causes me to tense up which makes the pain worse. It is impossible to relax.

I've heard that gynecologists can remove your hymen, plus I should just go anyway, but I'm having a hard time finding a way to go to a gynecologist. I'm 18 and in college and i still live with my parents and I use their insurance so I'd have to tell them because I don't have any money really. My parents won't ever pay for me to go to the doctor unless completely necessary. Plus talking about them with anything sexual is impossible. They just freeze up and I feel guilty for even bringing it up.
I still go to a pediatrician because my parents don't see the point of me changing and I don't feel comfortable talking with her about this. I guess there are free clinics but I would feel bad using them when my family has plenty of money.

hi, just have a really  quick question because I'm worried. On thursday night I was fingered quite aggressively and deeply and afterwards I bled a lot, I just finished my period on Saturday so I know it wasn't that but the thing is I'm still having some pink spotting today and little traced of blood and I was wondering if that was normal or not considering what happened. Just concerned, any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I also started taking birth control on Sunday so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it or not.

Hi all! I'm making an appointment with my gyno soon, but I wanted to see if anyone else had experience with something like this.

Recently I discovered a small-ish, painless, fleshy bump inside my vagina, near the opening. It is definitely NOT my g-spot, in fact, it is on what I think is called the posterior side of the vagina. So if the g-spot is located on the "top" of the vaginal wall, this bump is on the bottom. It is near the opening of my vagina and I can actually see a bit of it if I try really hard. Hope that makes sense!

I've googled to no end, and it does not sound like a Bartholin's or Skene's cyst. It is not near either of those locations. I am pretty familiar with how my vagina looks and feels, and this bump is definitely new.

Background information: I recently went off hormonal birth control pill after being on it for 5-6 years, I've had one normal period since being off. DIagnosed around 3 months ago with interstitial cystitis. Maybe neither of these are relevant, but who knows.

Would appreciate any insights!

Tannins

Do tannins (personally) give you menstrual cramps? I swear, tea is really dangerous during my period, which is unfortunate because tea is nice. Coffee doesn't bother me nearly as much. It makes me suspect it's the tannins in tea, but I wouldn't really know.
