Heya I'd just like to thank you for your post. In my first year of university the union building introduced a non-gender dependent toilet (but with a snazzy name i forget). I didn't really get the requirement for it but I now see lots of people have likely been saved from awkward situations by such a simple alteration as not sticking a male/female icon on the door.
As a cis-genedered person its difficult to really understand a situation you are unfamiliar with, despite accepting people come in many many forms. My university is pretty far ahead of many other places in the UK, thanks to a great LGBTQ society who do loads through the year to try and educate other students too.
They are having a vote soon to place more around the university campus and I will definitely make the effort to vote to pass the motion.
