I am usually leery posting here (all the terminology is intimidating and I don't want to offend), but:

I am friends with mostly guys and yes- they do ALWAYS talk about how a female 'smells' or 'tastes' "down there". It's a constant topic of conversation in the circles I participate in (most of them are actively dating and not settled down yet). I usually have to be the educating voice with them to set them straight. They all thought that vaginas SHOULD smell like fish and you just have to "get over it"- I'm sorry, but if a girl smells like fish she probably has an infection or imbalance of some sort- I've never met a girl who said a fishy smell was normal for her! Usually, for me, a normal smell is slightly musky- it's very distinct, but it's not fishy at all and is just... its own smell. Everyone smells differently. I like to think that, at least with my male friends, I've helped them be more... conscientious, accepting, and willing to be kind to a girl and tell her nicely if they think something is 'off' versus just not seeing her anymore and avoiding her.

I've also been friends with people who talk about the level of cleanliness of the gentlemen they've been seeing; various terms are used fairly frequently, so it -does- happen.

I agree with you though- I like to FEEL clean so I KNOW I smell okay or at least less musky; I'm VERY self-conscious about how a potential partner will feel about it, and as a result I -never- ever ever ever ever want oral sex performed on me. It actually gives me panic attacks thinking about it.

Good luck, I'll be reading the comments for advice too ;)
