Does this warrant a visit to the gyno?

I had my last regular period on February 28th and my cycles are about 30 days on average.

On March 17th (would have been the 18th day of my cycle) I began spotting, the spotting turned into bleeding in a few days, and it hasn't stopped yet. What I found to be even stranger than the early period is the texture of the blood. It looked just like the stretchy cervical mucus one gets during ovulation. I don't know if it was mucus mixed with blood, or just blood with a different texture from what I usually get.

Is there anything to worry about here?

The timing suggests ovulation bleeding. The duration is a bit odder, but probably not outside the realm of normal. It might be worth calling the gyno and asking if it sounds like something they'd want a look at.

Our periods are not like clockwork - even if they usually are for you, it's normal for one to be early or late or whatever. I don't think that there is any reason to be concerned about this.

If it's a one-off, I'd file it in the back of my mind but otherwise write it off as Official Uterine Wonk. (These things happen.) If it starts to happen repeatedly -- say, 3 times -- that's when I'd personally schedule the appointment with my NP.
