Aviane - Negative Effect On Mood?

Hello -

This is my first time on bc. I was prescribed Alesse (or generic) because it is low-dose. Anyway, I guess they've stopped making Alesse, so I ended up with Aviane. I've only been on it for two days, but already feel like it's affecting my mood in a negative way. A quick google search (for "aviane") told me that lots and lots of people experience side effects of anger with this pill.

I'm going to call the doctor tomorrow, but I'm really rethinking my choice in bc. I don't take any medication, so my body's not used to anything like this. I'm wondering if an IUD might be the way to go? Or maybe I just need a different pill?

What do you ladies think? Can you recommend a pill with low side effects?

Thanks so much..

(eta: Thanks so much for all your advice! I'm going to stick it out for a couple of months and see how it goes. This mood stuff might be due to stress or something external, or just the giant influx of hormones, or both..)

Everyone reacts differently to whatever pill they're taking... so it's hard to suggest one with low side effects for you. It's sort of a trial and error thing.

I had good results with Ortho-Tri-Cyclen and it's generic Trinessa.

A google search of any brand of BC will result in reports of many various side effects. The thing is, there's no way to predict how a certain brand will react with your body, since our chemistry is all different. Since you're likely to experience side effects with ANY HBC brand you try in the first 2-3 months, it may be useless to switch before you know if they'll last or not. Unless it's really not something you can deal with, I'd recomend sticking it out for a couple months and if they're STILL not gone, switch, repeat.

I haven't met/read about many people who experienced NO side effects when they first went on HBC. Good luck :)

if you are thinking of getting an iud, check out iud_divas on livejournal. was a very good resource when i was considering getting mine.

There's really no pill with low side effects, every woman's experience is different, and what works for me may not for you and vice versa. My roommate experienced depression the first cycle or two she spent on HBC, but it passed after that. So mood changes are definitely a side effect to keep an eye out for; doctors often suggest giving a pill three months to see if the side effects go away, so if you want to wait it out, it may go away. But mood changes aren't an easy thing to deal with, and if you decide you don't want to give it three months, describe what happened to your doctor, and you can talk about other brands of HBC to try or an IUD. :)

I'm on Aviane right now with absolutely no negative side effects. Everyone reacts differently! Give it some time.

I agree with this. [livejournal.com profile] iud_divas were really amazing both before and after I got my Paragard two months ago.

They have some very helpful tags to search through, or you can just post with a question or whatever.

Good luck!

i got switched to Aviane in a similar sort of way. i used to be on LevLite. this was about a year ago. long story short, i was pretty much insane for a month. haha. i cried over nothing, i even yelled at a professor in her office. but once that month was over, i was really happy with the switch.

i'd say stick with it. and good luck!

ps: i was on it for about three months then i started getting REALLY angry (im generally an angry person but i mean i was screaming at people for no reason) and having panic attacks (which might also have to do with a situation with a guy)
