We know one very common question that comes up in VP is when HBC users can expect their periods to show up during their hormone-free weeks. While it's totally normal for a withdrawal bleed to arrive at any time during the hormone-free week, knowing "it's all normal" doesn't necessarily give folks any idea of how common it is for bleeding to start sooner or later during that time. That can be a tad inconvenient even for people who aren't particularly worried about pregnancy -- and downright nerve-wracking for some people who are.
This is where this poll comes in. While it shouldn't be confused with actual large-scale and controlled research, our hope is that this can provide folks who are concerned -- or even just curious -- with some representation of how common it is for what to happen when.
The poll applies to people who use now or have used types of hormonal birth control that have a "set" time for a withdrawal bleed. This would mean combined oral contraceptives, contraceptive patches, and the Nuva Ring. It wouldn't include progestin-only pills, injectables (like Depo Provera), implants (like Implanon), or intrauterine systems (like Mirena) since these don't have a non-active time during which the body is "supposed" to bleed and therefore don't regulate bleeding in quite the same way.
When filling out this poll, please use when it is or was most common for you to start your period-like bleeding while taking hormonal birth control. If you feel like you need to click a couple of boxes to account for your normal variation, feel free to do that. And if there really is no "most common" bleed time for you, let us know that too.
