Community description:An empowering community geared towards education about vaginas, vulvas & sexual/reproductive health
This is the Dreamwidth version of the popular LiveJournal community [livejournal.com profile] vaginapagina. It is not a mirror: content should not be duplicated between communities at this point. Enjoy!

( about )

MISSION STATEMENT: Founded in 2001, VaginaPagina is an online community that offers a supportive, progressive, body- and sex-positive environment in which to discuss issues related to vulvovaginal, breast, sexual and reproductive health and wellness. It is a unique, empowerment-based safer space that is GLBTQQIA- and kink-friendly. Our goal is to build knowledge and combat misinformation by sharing personal experiences and reliable information from credible sources. We believe that by becoming active in VP, members are participating in a revolutionary and life-changing project.

And hey, there really is no such thing as "TMI," so don't be shy!

( to do )

Read Cunt, by Inga Muscio! Read The Vagina Monologues, by Eve Ensler! Embrace Femalia by Joani Blank! Catch Bitch and Animal when they bring the Pussy Manifesto to a town near you! Treat your vulva to something nice! Think good things about your vagina and the (female) body in general! (More recommendations can be found here.)

( crisis )

Are you in crisis? Please take advantage of the resources in your region.

hotpeachpages.net: International inventory of hotlines, shelters, refuges, crisis centres and women's organizations, searchable by country/language, plus index of domestic violence resources in over 70 languages

RAINN.net: Rape crisis centers outside of the United States

Inside the U.S., the National Domestic Violence Hotline can be reached at 1-800-799-SAFE. You can call the U.S. National Sexual Assault Hotline, operated by RAINN, 24 hours a day at 1-800-656-HOPE, or you can search for your local rape crisis center.

You may also find long-term support for sexual assault issues over in our sister community on LJ, [livejournal.com profile] _survivors_.

If you are in the U.S. or Canada and in need of the emergency contraception pill (ECP), click here.

( p.s. )

Fine Print: This community is meant to give people a way to network and get support, ideas and resources. It is not in any way meant to be substituted for medical advice/care. It is generally a good idea to see your doctor when anything abnormal occurs. We recognize that doctors don't always listen so well, that they're not always open to natural medicine, or that not everyone has access to medical care; that's why we're here. Please, PLEASE, seek medical attention for serious problems. See, for example, help finding free or discounted healthcare in your area (U.S. only). You can also locate/rate a health care professional, or check out the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association Referral Service. (It's a free, web-based referral service that provides information for those looking for LGBT-aware health care providers. You can also restrict your search to kink-aware providers and/or TS-/TG-aware providers.)

Use VP responsibly and at your own risk/empowerment.
